Plain Tales from the Hills (Oxford World's Classics)
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (December, 2001)
Average review score:

One of the finest collections of short stories in english.Rudyard Kipling writes concisely and with great insight on a wide range of issues. With each story only taking up a few pages the depth of characterisation is superb. 'The gate of one-hundred sorrows' is one of the finest short stories ever written.
Excellent reading, one of my favoritesMy copy has 36 stories, but Kipling's Plain Tales tells about life in British-occupied India from every imaginable angle. It's touching, it's funny, and at times it's unbelievably sad. Don't let the author put you off, this is a highly readable book. My personal favorites are "Thrown Away" and "Beyond the Pale", but be careful; they're sad.

The Practice of God's Presence
Published in Paperback by Whitaker House (June, 2000)
Average review score:

How Can Murray Do Better? He can't. He is superb. He distills to bare essences the way to a Holy life in Christ, but his prescriptions are not easy. If you want fluff, Murray is not the man to read. As with his other books, he holds True Believers to the standards Jesus Himself holds them to. As any Christian knows, this is NOT the easy Way.
Better still, Murray asks the same questions we ask, then, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, gives the answers. His book, "The Holiest of Holies" is the best book on the New Testament book of Hebrews I've ever read and is the basis for the perfect Bible study. Buy anything he has written and you will hold in your hands a fine literary and spiritual work.
LIFE CHANGING!This book has, and still continues to change my life! Every chapter is so FULL of rich wisdom and practical application... The section on humilty is OUTSTANDING! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who craves for a closer, deeper and true relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Praise God for such servants as Andrew Murray! He was truly, a man of God! God Bless!

Prague 1989: Theater of Revolution
Published in Hardcover by East European Monographs (15 April, 1997)
Average review score:

You Say You Want A Revolution? Then take a look at Mike Kukral's account of the 1989 events in Prague. This is the ONLY, day-to-day, non-media, non-government writing of an America who was present from start to finish. Chapter 3, which covers about 70 well-written pages, is a diary of the historic events leading up to, during, and after the "Velvet Revolution". Kukral's voice is deep and full of detail, yet can be easily understood by most anyone. As the events proceed, the excitement leaps off the pages and makes you feel as though you were standing alongside the author in Wenceslas Square on a chilly November evening. The social aspect of an Ohio University education played a crucial role in the accessability of this work - how often does the Smiths album "Strangeways" get mentioned alongside Havel and humanistic political geography? This is a very worthwhile read for anyone traveling to Prague or peace-loving revolutionaries who haven't yet broadened past Ghandi and MLK.
The best informative book about the Czech Revolution. This book is a stunning account of Kukral's day to day adventures as an American caught in the middle of the Velvet Revolution in Prague. His writing is brilliant as he captures the mood and atmosphere of the time and city. Kukral's view from the streets in Chapter 3 is a wonderfully written personal journal in which his observations on Czech culture, Prague history and architecture, and the last days of communism shine brilliantly from the pages. Other chapters deal with Prague history and culture in a somewhat unique 'humanistic' method. If you want to experience the city of Prague during a revolution read this book. The Prague Post gave this book a very high rating in its review and I recommend it above the works of T.G. Ash and other writers on the Velvet Revolution.

Prince of Persia 3D: Prima's Official Strategy Guide
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (30 September, 1999)
Average review score:

Let the game beginI purchase Prince of Persia around christmas time cause it had some great graphics. Then I started playing it. I was a man with no sense of purpose so I guess at thing alot and read the manual over and over again to no avail. The game was no longer fun. I was like a lost boy in the woods without a compass. Finally I dicided that it was time to do somthing so I bought the book. Now I have a compass better yet this book is more like a GPS unit. I have completed two level and boy is this game fun. If you are lost and need to find your way than this book is for you.
Mr. Bub's Insight to the Game was Invaluable!I can not say enough about this book! It was a tremendous help. My biggest complaint abut plot-based video games is that the goals and objectives can be too hard to figure out. Several times this was the case for me while playing "Prince of Persia 3D." I was so frustrated, I contemplated quitting the game. However, this book by Andrew Bub helped smooth out all of the incongruities that the programmers of the Prince of Persia failed to rectify (in my opinion), and helped me finish the game. Mr. Bub's writing style was intelligent yet easy to read, obviously written by someone who has spent a lot of time "in the trenches." I look forward to his next stategy guide!

Psychic Power: Young Person's School of Magic and Mystery (Young Person's School of Magic and Mystery, Vol. 2)
Published in Hardcover by Dragonhawk Publishing (November, 2000)
Average review score:

Psychic PowerTed Andrews has put together some books for young people beginning thier turn on the "wheel". My son and daughter found this book (and the first volume as well) to be helpful and the excercises enlightening. They have since moved on to more advanced training, and have passed this book on to thier friends. The notes in the front to parents alleviates the worries from non-magically inclined adults :o) But I'll bet that they read it as well.
All about dreams and other thingsThis is a wonderfully written book about dream exploration. Here you'll find solutions to your dreams, and how to keep dream journal(s). Many fasinating ways to dream journaling are here in this book. Excellent for beginners.

The Psychology of Criminal Conduct
Published in Paperback by Anderson Pub Co (July, 1998)
Average review score:

A great buyAndrews and Bonta capture the essence of modern thinking about "What works" in criminal justice. They present a detailed history of how the "nothing works" thinking influenced the administration of corrections and justice. They also provide a wonderfully succinct guide to factors which are the important components of effective programming with offenders. Everyone who works with offenders should read this.
Great for Research!I thought this book was superbly written. As an undergraduate student, I found this book extremely helpful in my forensic psychology seminar, as well as interesting. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in criminology and/or psychology.

Questioning Technology
Published in Paperback by Routledge (April, 1999)
Average review score:

The Liberation of TechnologyAndrew Feenberg's analysis of technology is profound and liberating. In his theory Feenberg incorporates ideas and insights from Heidegger, Marcuse, Foucault and Habermas among others, but goes beyond them in elaborating an original view. Dr. Feenberg sees technology as value-laden but humanly controlled and develops a historical concept of the essence of technology that incorporates philosophical, social and scientific perspectives. Convincing arguments are made for not viewing technology as a multiplicity of devices separated from the social sphere. "The technical always already incorporates the social in its structure."(Feenberg, 210) This means that devices could be designed to incorporate technical and environmental aspects that would enable liberation and life promoting values, instead of domination. In other words, technology is not autonomous and deteministic, it is possible, through design, to change its social, normative character. The book is clearly written and well organized, easy to read in the beginning, more demanding toward the end. But the chapters are organized to enable the reader to successfully get through the book, which includes many examples and detailed explanations. This book is a synthesis of philosophy, history and social thought. At the end of the book you are no longer the person you were before, and your view of technology will be forever changed. You begin to see possibilities where you thought none existed, and connections between things that you never dreamed of! I just finished reading it, and plan to read it again, soon!
An Original and Important Contribution to Technology StudiesAndrew Feenberg is the currently most prominent and productive philosopher in the area of technology and politics. He is an extraordinarily well-read and cosmopolitan thinker. He has made original contributions both to technology studies and political theory. And he has fashioned a viable and hopeful philosophy of the left. Feenberg is also a fine craftsman. He writes easily and lucidly. His book is well-constructed and carefully argued. Feenberg does not hesitate to lay bare the skeleton of his argument in clear and helpful charts. His book has an extensive bibliography and an instructive index. And he uses lay-out devices to keep the line of argument before his readers. _Questioning Technology_ is eminently teachable. However, it deserves wide reading and discussion beyond the classroom as well.
